WHY WE LAUNCHED ALDUS PRESS
A few friends asked me some time ago if I wanted to start an
Open Access Book Publishing initiative with them. The idea was to combine our
knowledge of publishing in general and scholarly communication in particular.
During conferences and later in bars we discussed how Open Access has changed
the industry and how automation and computerization will mean more change to
come. We all felt that existing publishers could do a better job. Perhaps not a
revolutionary better job, in the way Steve Jobs changed mobile telephony to the
smartphone, but perhaps a more efficient, pleasant change. Certain publishers,
we felt, are perhaps just resting on their laurels, expecting their bonuses to
come in through the ‘Big Deals’, others we felt, are incredibly inefficient and
spend way too much time discussing, arguing and debating ‘whether footnotes

So what exactly is a film? Well a film or movie is again a
story told with moving images, hence the term motion picture applies to films.

Computer Animation is also used for making a film or motion
picture. The series of images captured by camera or created via animation or
visual effects are called frames. Normally it takes about 24 frames to capture
or create one second of smooth motion. 24 frames/second is the standard video
format for non linear video editing.
The whole process of producing a film is called Film making
or film production. This process involves a lot of people to deliver the film
from the initial story or idea to a full length motion picture.
Some of them are Scriptwriter, Producer, Director,
Cinematographer, Actor, Editor, Compositor and many more. As I said it's a huge
team effort and not a piece of cake. Unlike many other art editing is the only
one that is unique to film production separating film making from other art
forms if compared to photography, theater, directing etc.
So What is Editing?
Editing means "correcting, revising, or adapting"
in general. It's very much the same in film making. In film making the process

finished room in the attic. If so, go with a window air conditioner—they're a
better choice than portable
air conditioners, which struggled in our tests.
